I hate the cold. There. I said it. Yes I’m from Canada and I’m supposed to love things like hockey and skiing and skating and snow. But I don’t. Hence why I moved to Vancouver in hopes of a winter with a warmer, milder climate. Well… jokes on me. My first winter here and Vancouver decided to have it’s coldest, snowiest winter since I don’t know maybe EVER. So rude. So when the opportunity to pick up a Maui layover in the midst of the winter tundra of terribleness, I jumped on it! Ricki’s had recently sent me some samples from their new upcoming resort wear line, and I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to show off the gorgeous pieces!
So who takes your pictures?? I get asked this all the time. The answer? Sometimes professional photographers but most of the time random strangers, crew members, people I force… including my beautiful friend Samantha (a.k.a. my Instagram husband!) When I was lucky enough to get on this Maui layover with her, I knew I would be putting her to work (sorry Sam!) Follow along on our adventures as I dragged her around while making some quick outfit changes (5 to be exact!)
Sam’s hotel room wasn’t ready when we got in so she got a free breakfast voucher and you better believe we took advantage of that! We shared the vegan breakfast scramble. Delicious! I wore the first item in the new collection that caught my eye which was this multi colored print tank top. It’s so light and airy and the fabric is soft, not to mention I LOVE the colors! Let’s stop by this dolphin mural!
After breakfast we went down to the beach. Maui has been having some crazy storms lately so the water was actually pretty rough. We didn’t go in the water but I stood on these rocks and posed… does that count? This is another one of my favourite pieces, this gorgeous bathing suit cover.
Even though Maui was clearly warmer than Canada, it was actually a lot colder than normal (cue the tears I know!) I put on this cute, hooded cardigan, to take pictures in it obviously, but I actually needed it because it was quite breezy.
As we walked along the beach, we noticed a capsized sailboat. It must have happened relatively recently because the owner was there dealing with it and there was police there. I really wanted a photo in front of it but talk about AWKWARD. I really wanted to showcase the maxi in front of the boat because when would I ever have another opportunity for an epic capsized sailboat shot?? I pretended to be frolicking in the water and slowly made my way closer and closer to the boat. Anything for the perfect shot right???
After our eventful morning, we went back to the hotel to relax. I changed outfits (again!) to get a shot in my last look! How cute is this cut out top? Maui is so lush that no matter where you are, it looks like you’re in some gorgeous tropical jungle! Make sure you watch for Ricki’s resort wear line in stores and online coming January 2017! What’s your favourite piece from their collection?
