Wellllllll it’s been a weird week for me. Lately I’ve been feeling restless and bored and in need of some excitement. So on a whim, I dropped all my shifts and decided I was going to go to Ireland! Well, unfortunately, the universe had other plans for me.
I grew up in Winnipeg or how many people know it, Winterpeg. It’s true. It’s a wintery, cold place and definitely not my cup of tea. That’s why I was SO excited to move to Vancouver where all I had to worry about in the winter was what kind of cute rain boots and umbrellas I was going to get and if they would go with my outfit! However, the world can be cruel place my friends…And it just so happens, that my first year as a Vancouverite, would be the worst winter, with the most snow, in 70 years!!!! Are you kidding me??!
With winter comes what… you guessed it… the flu! Now for someone who works with the general public every day, and being exposed to billions of germs, you would think I would get sick all the time. But lucky for me, after 10 years in the aviation industry, I think I’ve developed quite a strong immune system. That is until of course, I decide to go on holiday!
The day before I was supposed to leave for Ireland, I got hit with a MONSTROUS bug that had other plans for me. Convinced I was invincible, I was sure I could kick it and still go on my trip! The first night, I decided to try my usual cure. I bundled up in piles of clothes and blankets, turned the heat way up, and prepared to sweat the toxins out of me. Well… let me tell you… I had a battle royale with this beast all night long. People say I’m exaggerating when I say it was like the exorcism but IT FELT LIKE IT! There was lots of flailing, moaning, sweating, tossing, swallowing knifes, body cramps, coughing, chills, fever, hallucinating, thrashing… Could I beat this thing???
The answer is now, and alas, the Bubonic Plague won and left me bed ridden for 4 days and crushed all my hopes and dreams of my Irish adventures. I’m trying to be positive and take it as a sign that it wasn’t meant to me… that my future wasn’t meant to be filled with cute Irish boys and pints of Guinness… Cheers to next week being a better one right?
